blondie's story

Philip always said he wanted another dog that looked like his once in a lifetime dog, Gleason. Yes, he was named after the Honeymooners TV star Jackie Gleason.

So twenty years ago and after many offers of dogs needing homes , I said I found one that looked just like Gleason. Philip, finally relenting, said, "Bring him home."

I arrived home happy with my new pooch and his first comment was, "Where in the hell is the one that looks like Gleason?" "I said this is it!" He said, "That dog doesn't look like Gleason." I replied, "Ok, so he's not so tall and not so brown." The goal was to find a dog that was a thirty pound, apricot colored, terrier mix. The newly named Schlagen (killer in German) was 18 grey pounds of fuzz. It was close.

After twelve wonderful years with Schlagen, aka, the fuzzy son-of-a-bitch by Uncles Mike and Jack. It was time to look for a new dog. Don't ask why, it is still too painful to talk about! (he is in a tin can in the linen closet - webmaster)

Checking out nearly two hundred dogs at the Capital Area Human Society and the Franklin County Animal Shelter, I really thought I actually found a thirty pound, apricot colored, terrier mix. After the last attempt, I was a little skeptical about bringing the dog in question home. So, on a Friday, I left the only dog that matched the description at the shelter.

Telling Philip of the possible canine, he suggested I just get it, but I felt it was best that he see the dog as well. On Sunday I went out to buy mulch, but came back with the real deal. Finally, a thirty pound, apricot colored, terrier mix, aptly named Blondie. Now you know the rest of the story.
